When you see an Audi R8 on the street or highways of Colorado you’ll remember it. The car is stunning. More than a ‘looker’ however, it’s an award winner for performance. This featured press release from March of 2008 documents recent Audi R8 achievements:

Audi R8 is named as 2008 World Performance Car and 2008 World Car Design of the Year

The Audi R8 has achieved a double victory at the 2008 World Car of the Year awards, winning both the World Performance Car and the World Car Design of the Year awards. The super sports car from Audi was chosen for these awards by 47 World Car jurors from 24 countries throughout the world.

When naming the Audi R8 as the 2008 World Performance Car, the jurors observed that it has “solid credentials on paper thanks to its mid-mounted 420 horsepower V8 engine and aluminum construction. But where it excels is in the exceptional balance, refinement and control that grant the driver the confidence to push to the limit. It has astonishing precision for a car of its size category”.

Last year, the Audi RS 4 collected the World Performance Car award, so this makes it two in a row in the performance category for the brand with the four rings. This year there were two representatives from Audi in the final stages of voting, as the Audi S5 was also one of the top three finalists for the award.

For the 2008 World Car Design of the Year award, the jurors praised the Audi R8 for “transforming the sports car landscape. The R8 design is striking, original and full of interesting details, from the nose strakes to the much discussed vertical ‘blade’ behind the B pillar”.

World Car design expert Tom Matano, Executive Director of the School of Industrial Design, Academy of Art University, San Francisco, USA commented that the Audi R8 is “a great visual representation of the technology within, a complete package of Techno-Iconic Design”.

Last year, the Audi TT received the World Car Design of the Year award, so Audi has retained this design crown for the second year in a row.

Audi won the overall World Car of the Year title with the Audi A6 sedan at the inaugural World Car of the Year awards in 2005. With one overall win and four category wins in total, Audi is the most successful manufacturer at the World Car of the Year awards.

The Audi A6 is a popular car in Colorado. And the word is out about the 2009 version. This blog provides information about what we can look forward to in the coming months. According to the Audi of USA website:

The new Audi A6 for model year 2009 boasts enhanced design, interior and an all-new powertrain. The new powerful yet efficient powerplant has been added to the already impressive lineup of direct injection engines.

U.S. market introduction of the Audi A6 will be the first quarter of 2009.
Its design is enhanced by a range of bold new accents, perfectly articulating the A6 model’s strong personality. The single-frame grill, bumpers, air vents and fog lights have all been redesigned. LED lighting technology for both front DRL and side mirror lighting, a new wheel program, and interior accent updates round out the impressive improvements.

Exterior
An aluminum-colored molding traversing the sides emphasizes the A6’s dynamic contour. At 16.17 ft long, 6.10 ft wide, and 4.79 ft high, little has changed in the sedan’s generous proportions. The gentle lip on the trunk, integrated chrome strip on the bumper, broad diffuser and straight exhaust pipes are part and partial of the revamped rear end. The rear lights with LED technology have also been updated: narrow and wide, they taper inward on the sedan.

Interior
The A6’s spacious interior with its clean and elegant contours and perfect craftsmanship is characteristic of this luxury brand.
The instrument panel uses new higher-resolution graphics; and a new frame better accentuates the display (color in the optional MMI navigation system). Tastefully-appointed chrome trim, even on the spokes of the steering wheel, call attention to its overall elegance and inlays are available in either aluminum look or fine woods.
More control, more safety, more comfort, more driving pleasure: an improved suspension gives the driver even greater control over the car.

quattro® all-wheel drive
The very latest generation quattro® is available in the 2009 Audi A6. It gives the A6 tremendous driving characteristics, remarkable grip and superior safety. Under normal conditions, the torque split is 40 percent to the front wheels and 60 percent to the rear. The mechanically-operated Torsen differential immediately diverts most of the power to the axle, providing better traction whenever the need arises – in extreme cases, up to 65 percent to the front or 85 percent to the rear.

Suspension
In fine-tuning the A6, two key objectives were identified: increasing its comfort while retaining its sporty character. With new large-diameter, front-axle shock absorbers operating within an optimized valve system, Audi engineers were able to achieve both goals.

Audi side assist
The optional Audi side assist kicks in to help drivers when changing lanes at speeds over 37 mph, helping to enable a more stress-free driving experience. Using radar sensors, Audi side assist is able to detect other cars up to 164 ft away. When a vehicle is in your blindspot or rapidly approaching from behind, a warning light flashed in the exterior mirror.

At Denver, Colorado area Prestige Imports we recognize that automobile safety ratings are of high importance to our customers. Understandably so.

In a joint statement from Audi of America, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) dated November of 2007 the Audi A3 joins other Audi automobiles receiving the designation of “Top Safety Pick”.

The following is extracted from this announcement:

Recent crash tests by both organizations have demonstrated that Audi is among the best in the industry in terms of passenger safety and vehicle crash worthiness. For 2008, the IIHS added the Audi A3 to the list of Audi models designated as “Top Safety Pick” in the Midsize category. 2007 “Top Safety Pick” winners A4 and A6 continued into 2008 in the Midsize and Large car category, respectively.

Audi is the only German luxury auto manufacturer with the distinction of having three models listed as a “Top Safety Pick.” To achieve this distinction, vehicles must receive a top rating of “Good” for passenger protection in off-set frontal, side, and rear crash tests. In addition, IIHS vehicle tests now include occupant safety measures and crash prevention criterion. Vehicles must have an available electronic stability program, which Audi has standard on every model it produces.

Audi’s commitment to safety also includes a comprehensive list of active safety features. Every Audi sold in the U.S. has standard four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock braking system (ABS), an electronic stability program and daytime running lights (DRL). New for 2008 on all models is a standard tire pressure monitoring system. All of these features are designed to help reduce the chances of a collision.

There are many standard passive safety features in Audi vehicles that are designed to protect occupants in the event of a collision. Several key optional convenience features also enhance the driving experience. New for 2008 on the A6/S6, A8/S8, and Audi Q7 models is an optional Audi lane assist feature. When equipped, a camera monitors the vehicle’s path of travel, and will slightly vibrate the steering wheel should the driver veer from their current lane without signaling. This alerts the driver that they are changing lanes should their attention be diverted from the road. The sensitivity of the lane sensor can be adjusted using the Audi MMI controller.

In 2006, Audi Q7 broke ground in the automotive industry to be equipped with blind spot protection which is called Audi side assist. Now available on the 2008 A6/S6 and A8/S8 models, this system monitors up to 165 feet behind the vehicle and alerts the driver when someone is in their blind spot. A directional amber LED appears in the inner housing of the exterior mirror to inform the Audi driver that someone is in their blind spot. Should the Audi driver attempt to merge into the lane occupied by a vehicle in their blind spot, the LED will flash brightly when the turn signal is pushed. This is to insure the driver is aware that changing lanes could be dangerous, and to use extra caution.

In Colorado the Audi A4 is one of the most popular cars around. If you don’t happen to be driving an Audi A4 yourself, just take a look around the next time you’re out on the Colorado highways, you’re bound to see an Audi A4, more than likely several.

First introduced in 1996, the Audi A4 is one of the most admired cars sold in its class. The Audi A4 traditionally features handsome styling inside and out. Available ‘quattro’ all-wheel drive makes the Audi A4 a favorite for many Colorado residents accustomed to dealing with the region’s dynamic year-round climate and road conditions.

Audi released the first official pictures of the B8 series A4 in August 2007, and unveiled the car to the public at the September 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show. The B8 A4 substantially shares the same underpinnings as the Audi A5 coupé, known as the Modular Longitudinal Platform. While prior A4 chassis were limited in wheelbase due to the relationship between the engine and front axle, the MLP allows for a reduced front overhang, resulting in a longer wheelbase with less increase in overall length. This effectively redistributes the engine mass slightly rearwards, improving handling by better balancing the mass more equally between the front and rear wheels. The estimated static front:rear weight ratio of the B8 A4 is approximately 55:45, depending on body style and engine. The relocation of the steering rack in front of the axle is said to also improve handling over previous A4 platforms.

Interested parties are invited to contact Prestige Imports in Lakewood near Denver, Colorado for additional information, or to test-drive an Audi A4. Prestige Imports in Denver is a short drive from any point in the metropolitan area. The Colorado Audi dealer is open Monday through Saturday. It’s interesting the way US News and World Reports produces their car reviews. From what we can gather, their reviews are essentially a compilation of many different published reviews. For example their published review of the 2008 Audi A3 is “based on analysis of 77 A3 reviews and test drives.”

Here at Prestige Imports in Denver we’re rather fond of the 2008 Audi A3. So we were interested to read the US News and World Reports review of the A3. And as it turns out, the Audi A3 comes up #1 in the category of ‘upscale small cars’. Trailing the 2008 Audi A3 in order are: 2) the Acura TSX, 3) the Volkswagen GTI, 4) the Saab 9-3, and 5) the Volvo S40. They’re all good cars … making it even more impressive (we think) that the Audi A3 scores highest. In addition to a compiled overall score, each car is scored on the basis of performance, exterior, interior, safety and reliability.

Extracted comments from the review follow here:

The A3 performs like a sports car in the body of a stylish compact hatchback. According to our analysis, the 2008 Audi A3 is a good combination of stellar performance and safety coupled with the utility of a small hatchback. The A3 is also known for offering a level of luxury most reviewers are not accustomed to finding in a hatchback. The 2008 A3 is available in three trims: the 2.0 T S tronic, the 2.0 T 6 speed and the 3.2 S line, also known as the 3.2 Quattro.

Performance - Audi has succeeded in creating a hatchback with the power and feel of a sports car.

Exterior - Car and Driver says the 2008 Audi A3 is “seductively styled inside and out,” a sentiment many auto writers share.

Interior - Although the 2008 A3 is the entry-level compact in Audi’s line of vehicles, reviews report it’s in keeping with Audi’s reputation for a quality fit and finish.

Safety - The 2008 A3 was selected by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety as a “Top Safety Pick” for good performance in front, side and rear tests.

Reliability -  Audi’s new vehicle limited warranty is for four years or 50,000 miles.

Here’s a brief promo video featuring the 2008 Audi A3 Cabriolet. Have a look.

So you’ve had your eye on an Audi TT for some time. It’s no wonder … it’s a fun car. It’s not hard to imagine driving around the Denver area or the Colorado Front Range in one of these sporty numbers.

The car has lots of appeal … obviously. Otherwise you wouldn’t be interested. Though what do you really know about the Audi TT? Well for starters you might be interested to know it’s an award winner. Accolades include:

  • North American Car of the Year
  • Car and Driver magazine’s Ten Best list
  • Drive Car of the Year
  • Top Gear Coupe of the Year
  • Fifth Gear Car of the Year
  • Autobild ‘Most Beautiful Car’
  • World Design Car of the Year

It’s an impressive resume we’d say. In addition, here’s some of what the folks at Edmunds.com have to say about the car:

The current Audi TT was redesigned for the 2008 model year and represents the second generation. Although slightly larger, the second-generation TT doesn’t stray too far from the timeless lines of its predecessor. The general look is the same, though character lines are crisper and the nose adopts Audi’s now signature single-frame grille. Although longer and wider than the first TT, the latest version is lighter (by nearly 200 pounds in the case of the roadster) thanks to increased use of aluminum in the body structure.

On the road, the 2.0T feels more agile through a set of curves, as it has less weight on the front tires, while the 3.2 Quattro delivers more punch on straightaways along with a more aggressive engine and exhaust sound. The 2.0T is actually the more athletic of the two, as its quick-revving four-cylinder engine, whooshing turbocharger and light-effort, nimble steering combine to deliver a strong sporting impression.

One of the TT’s most notable assets is its superbly crafted interior, which entices with a look that is sleek and modern. Another is its sculpted exterior design. The TT also offers an impeccable sequential-shift manual transmission, and great hatchback utility when purchased in the coupe iteration. Its primary downside concerns the fact that its handling is less precise than that offered by some of its rear-drive competitors.

And what’s a discussion of a car worth without seeing it. A video follows.

We’re big fans of the new 2008 Audi A4, though admittedly we may be biased. So when we saw this video profiling the 2008 Audi A4, we thought it was worth passing along.

By way of a little background information, the Audi A4 is typically available in cabriolet, sedan and wagon body styles. Equipped with quattro the Audi A4 presents Denver, Colorado drivers with an appealing alternative to an SUV. The Audi A4 presents an upscale and comfortable cabin with a secure feel and ride. Three generations of the Audi A4 have been produced to date: 1996-2001, 2002-2004 and 2005 to present. Output from the base engine, a turbocharged inline four, has risen from 150 to 200 horsepower, while the V6 has likewise grown more power, from 172 horsepower to 255.

The video clip below runs about two minutes, so if you’ve got a couple to spare, have a look. And if you’d like to test drive a 2008 Audi A4, feel free to contact one of our Audi brand specialists. If you’re expecting any high pressure sales stuff at Prestge Imports, you’ll be disappointed. Though if you want to talk Audis and luxury/performance cars in general, we can do that all day long. Our best.
