While prior A4 chassis were limited in wheelbase due to the relationship between the engine and front axle, the MLP allows for a reduced front overhang, resulting in a longer wheelbase with less increase in overall length. This effectively redistributes the engine mass slightly rearwards, improving handling by better balancing the mass more equally between the front and rear wheels. The estimated static front:rear weight ratio of the B8 A4 is approximately 55:45, depending on body style and engine. The relocation of the steering rack in front of the axle is said to also improve handling over previous A4 platforms.

The Audi A5 was unveiled simultaneously at the Geneva Motor Show and Melbourne International Motor Show in March of 2007, and is considered to be a luxury coupe. Audi bills the coupe as a grand tourer, to compete against the likes of the BMW E92, and the Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class. The A5 is the coupe variant of the 4th generation A4 sedan. The A5 marks Audi’s return to the mid-size coupe market since the Audi 80-based Coupe model ended production in 1996.
The Audi A5 debuts the new Audi MLP platform which is planned to underpin the next generation A4, A6 and A8 models. The platform is notable for its departure from Audi’s trademark “overhung” engine mounting position over the front axle, in favor of the powertrain being located behind the front axle - in an effort to achieve a more even weight distribution between the front and rear wheels. The A5 debuted with the 3.2-liter FSI V6 engine.
The long wheelbase and short overhangs work together to give the A5 a low, wide stance. It’s perfectly complemented by a lean, flowing roof line that adheres to Audi’s signature design principle of sectioning the car’s profile into two-thirds car body and one-third glass surfaces. The result is a grand touring car, sporty yet elegant. Walter de’Silva, head of Volkswagen Group Design, calls the Audi A5 “the most beautiful car I have ever designed.”

The Audi S4 is a high performance sport version of the popular Audi A4 cars. The S4 name was originally used for the sport version of the Audi 100. The current third-generation Audi S4 is available as a sedan, wagon (Avant) and two-door convertible (Cabriolet). The A4 is compact in size, though the current S4 packs a 340-horsepower V8 under its hood. It’s matched to either a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic. Quattro all-wheel drive is standard. There are other performance-oriented modifications as well, including a sport-tuned suspension, 18-inch wheels with high-performance tires and more powerful brakes. On the outside, subtle styling accents and badges distinguish the S4 from the regular A4.
Inside, front occupants are treated to a comfortable and functional cockpit. Leather seating is standard, and interior trim, lighting and controls are all of high quality. The Avant sport wagon provides up to 61 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded. The current S4 impresses with both performance and style. Power is abundant, handling is stellar and the cabin is superlative. The fact that it’s available in Avant and Cabriolet versions is another plus.
