In today’s blog we’ve elected to give attention to the 2008 Porsche Cayenne, with a special emphasis coming from our unique perspective here in the Mile High City of Denver, Colorado. Whether it’s apparent or not, the fact is that we do a fair bit of research in connection with each of our blog postings. Generally the topics center around our products because, well, we’re a car dealership. And we’re in this business (among other reasons) because we love cars … in particular Porsches and Audis available here at Prestige Imports.

Doing research may not seem like tons of fun, but for us it’s not a chore because, as mentioned, we have a real affection for cars. Collecting bits and pieces of information from not only the manufacturer but from Porsche enthusiasts the world over, allows us to refine our own perspective and remain better in touch with customers and the marketplace.

The 2008 Porsche Cayenne is an upscale SUV that definitely gets its share of attention here in Denver. Summarizing from a review by the folks at Edmunds.com, the following characterizes some of their impressions:

For 2008, the Porsche Cayenne enters its second generation. Most of the changes are under the skin, and indeed the body shell and interior are mostly untouched. Wider headlights, a reshaped hood and front fenders and a deeper chin spoiler give the 2008 Cayenne a slightly more aggressive stance than last year’s model. More energetic power plants mean even the V6-equipped Cayenne can wear its Porsche crest with pride.

• The V6’s output now stands at 290 horsepower (an increase of 43 hp)
• The V8-powered Cayenne S makes 385 hp (an increase of 45 hp)
• The new GTS model has an enhanced version of that V8 that pumps out 405 hp
• The top-shelf Cayenne Turbo continues to be available, and it kicks out an astounding 500 hp (an increase of 50 hp)

Zero-to-60-mph times range from around 8 seconds flat for the V6 to around 5 seconds flat for the Turbo. Handling, always a forte of the Cayenne, is even better now thanks to optional Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC). This system uses automatically adjusting stabilizer bars to do an amazing job of virtually eliminating body roll when the SUV is driven hard on a winding road.

And if you choose to drive a Cayenne down a winding road, Colorado has plenty of them. We encourage you to stop by Prestige Imports in Lakewood to take one for a spin.

It’s interesting the way US News and World Reports produces their car reviews. From what we can gather, their reviews are essentially a compilation of many different published reviews. For example their published review of the 2008 Audi A3 is “based on analysis of 77 A3 reviews and test drives.”

Here at Prestige Imports in Denver we’re rather fond of the 2008 Audi A3. So we were interested to read the US News and World Reports review of the A3. And as it turns out, the Audi A3 comes up #1 in the category of ‘upscale small cars’. Trailing the 2008 Audi A3 in order are: 2) the Acura TSX, 3) the Volkswagen GTI, 4) the Saab 9-3, and 5) the Volvo S40. They’re all good cars … making it even more impressive (we think) that the Audi A3 scores highest. In addition to a compiled overall score, each car is scored on the basis of performance, exterior, interior, safety and reliability.

The A3 performs like a sports car in the body of a stylish compact hatchback. According to our analysis, the 2008 Audi A3 is a good combination of stellar performance and safety coupled with the utility of a small hatchback. The A3 is also known for offering a level of luxury most reviewers are not accustomed to finding in a hatchback. The 2008 A3 is available in three trims: the 2.0 T S tronic, the 2.0 T 6 speed and the 3.2 S line, also known as the 3.2 Quattro.

Performance - Audi has succeeded in creating a hatchback with the power and feel of a sports car.

Exterior - Car and Driver says the 2008 Audi A3 is “seductively styled inside and out,” a sentiment many auto writers share.

Interior - Although the 2008 A3 is the entry-level compact in Audi’s line of vehicles, reviews report it’s in keeping with Audi’s reputation for a quality fit and finish.

Safety - The 2008 A3 was selected by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety as a “Top Safety Pick” for good performance in front, side and rear tests.

Reliability -  Audi’s new vehicle limited warranty is for four years or 50,000 miles.

The A5 debuted with the 3.2-liter FSI V6 engine.

The long wheelbase and short overhangs work together to give the A5 a low, wide stance. It’s perfectly complemented by a lean, flowing roof line that adheres to Audi’s signature design principle of sectioning the car’s profile into two-thirds car body and one-third glass surfaces. The result is a grand touring car, sporty yet elegant. Walter de’Silva, head of Volkswagen Group Design, calls the Audi A5 “the most beautiful car I have ever designed.”

Occasionally we like to surf around on the internet and see what the media and others are saying about our products. It’s no secret that all of us at Prestige Imports in Denver are huge fans of Porsches, though it’s admittedly nice to see others extolling their virtues too. It’ll come as no surprise that one needn’t look very long or hard to locate rave reviews about Porsche automobiles.

A recent review of the 2008 Porsche Boxster from US News and World Reports in particular caught our eye. According to their report the 2008 Porsche Boxster ranks number 1 out of 9 Luxury Sports Cars. Their ranking was based on an analysis of 45 published reviews and test drives of the Porsche Boxster, and their analysis of reliability and safety data.

Here’s an excerpt of what they wrote:

“The Boxster’s high ranking is based on its road-hugging handling dynamics and practical, yet luxurious interior that’s suited to satisfy the pickiest of buyers. True to Porsche’s reputation for masterful engineering, the Boxster is near perfect — and serves as a fantastic choice for anyone desiring a Luxury Sports Car. The 2008 Porsche Boxster, the Cayman’s convertible twin brother, is every bit as practical as it is luxurious and sporty.

Overall, what the Boxster offers over so many others is a near idealistic balance, writes Automobile.com. So you’ve had your eye on an Audi TT for some time. It’s no wonder … it’s a fun car. It’s not hard to imagine driving around the Denver area or the Colorado Front Range in one of these sporty numbers.

The car has lots of appeal … obviously. Otherwise you wouldn’t be interested. Though what do you really know about the Audi TT? Well for starters you might be interested to know it’s an award winner. Accolades include:

The current Audi TT was redesigned for the 2008 model year and represents the second generation. Although slightly larger, the second-generation TT doesn’t stray too far from the timeless lines of its predecessor. The general look is the same, though character lines are crisper and the nose adopts Audi’s now signature single-frame grille. Although longer and wider than the first TT, the latest version is lighter (by nearly 200 pounds in the case of the roadster) thanks to increased use of aluminum in the body structure.

On the road, the 2.0T feels more agile through a set of curves, as it has less weight on the front tires, while the 3.2 Quattro delivers more punch on straightaways along with a more aggressive engine and exhaust sound. The 2.0T is actually the more athletic of the two, as its quick-revving four-cylinder engine, whooshing turbocharger and light-effort, nimble steering combine to deliver a strong sporting impression.

One of the TT’s most notable assets is its superbly crafted interior, which entices with a look that is sleek and modern. Another is its sculpted exterior design. The TT also offers an impeccable sequential-shift manual transmission, and great hatchback utility when purchased in the coupe iteration. Its primary downside concerns the fact that its handling is less precise than that offered by some of its rear-drive competitors.
